The iSA project will establish a collaborative model where doctors can provide second opinion to improve quality of care

This is an EU funded Project and an EU-funded international support action that seeks to provide Web-based diagnostic and therapeutic support in infectious diseases and children/adult oncology, to hospitals located in emerging communities of Africa and South America.

The iSA cooperation network is led by health professionals from Son Dureta hospital (Malllorca, Spain) in collaboration with doctors of Vall d’Hebron, Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona and the Instituto Valenciano de Oncología (Spain).

iSA has been designed to provide clinical support for infectious diseases and for children/adult oncology cases. One of the main goals of the 30-month project is to set up a second opinion platform that enables remote doctors to share medical content around a patient and improve the diagnostic quality.

The iSA website uses MEDTING to communicate among doctors from different sites and as a platform to exchange medical images and clinical cases. Mobile access to information is also provided for remote areas where no internet connection is possible.

Doctors regularly collaborate with one another on the diagnosis and treatment of complex cases. Leveraging the expertise of colleague physicians gives you the ability to tap into the knowledge of a multidisciplinary group of experts whether inside or outside your own medical facility.

Easily sharing such cases with a worldwide group of physician experts through the internet offers a higher probability of the case being reviewed by a greater number of consultants. This potentially offers better clinical outcomes by enhancing the quality of the clinical service and increasing patient safety.

Furthermore, hospitals can utilize MEDTING to create new business opportunities. Second opinion services, telemedicine or excellence expertise networks can be established by utilizing the web based MEDTING technology.

Medical Pictures, Videos and Cases Exchange

MEDTING is an internet website for collaboration on clinical cases, through a convenient way to upload and share medical images, videos, and associated case information.

Cases can be designated public - shared with all MEDTING users, or private, invited viewers only. As MEDTING provides services only for the purposes noted above, patient identifying data is prohibited from MEDTING uploads and related discussions. Private content is useful for telemedicine and second opinion services.

The translation capability facilitates the conversation among physicians who speak different languages.

A group of hospitals can use MEDTING as a telemedicine tool. MEDTING helps healthcare organizations and hospitals share images easily and privately.

Spanish sarcoma expert group COTMES has recently launched its new Website incorporating an innovative Web 2.0 tool for medical image exchange.

COTMES has incorporated MEDTING Enterprise in order to build a powerful Web-based clinical image management platform integrated in the group’s Web site.

With MEDTING every doctor of the committee is able to upload large volumes of clinical images and cases in an automated way. The solution uses MIO (Medical Images Organizer), which automates the capture and upload of images generated by any medical imaging device (including MRI, CT scanners, digital cameras, etc).

The MEDTING Enterprise platform integrated into COTMES website allows doctors to maintain constant communication facilitating the exchange of the clinical cases to be reviewed every week. The system has also opens the possibility to easily share videos and provide second-opinion services to hospitals throughout Spain and beyond.

About COTMES
COTMES is composed of a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, radiotherapists, rehabilitators, and medical oncologists specialized in Sarcoma management.

The Power of Collective Wisdom

Medical Societies, Associations, Clinical and Research Workgroups traditionally develop websites as a reference place for members. Some of them incorporate a wiki or blog technology.

MEDTING Platform can be easily integrated into any website and allow a group of users to build a powerful clinical data repository that can provide great benefit to the taskforce. The storage of these images and videos coupled with case comments offers clinical professionals very valuable educational and reference tools that can positively impact the quality of patient care.

Easy and automated exchange of medical content can be done privately, globally and immediately.

Medting is also integrated with PubMed. When reviewing a clinical case or resource (image or video) with keywords assigned, Medting performs a search on Pubmed citations. An example of the results of such a search are shown in the accompanying graphic.

MEDTING organizes content by using standard terminologies like SNOMED and also integrates MeSH.

MEDTING is a web based social community for physicians. Cases, images, and videos are evaluated by MEDTING users leading to further case commentary and sharing with others.

Clinical sites that discuss clinical topics or illnesses can link to medical content posted on MEDTING, providing meaningful content on their website.

MEDTING Enterprise also allows any organization to own and have their own private platform for exclusively use of the members.
