The Widget is a desktop tool that you can install and get from the home page. It makes easier to the users to upload images and videos to MDPIXX. The Widget is useful when the user wants to upload images but don’t want to open a web browser because of several reasons. For example, if you are with a patient doing a process and need the computer for other reasons you may not want to open MDPIXX. The widget allows you easily to get images and send to MDPIXX without the need of opening a browser.

The Snapshot utility is an amazing functionality that will allow you to make a snapshot of any screen and send as image to the widget. If you are with a patient and using a third party application (for video capturing, PACS Viewer, Medical Record, etc.) you can use the widget to make a photo of the screen and send that content to the widget. Easy and simple!

The widet required Yahoo Widget Engine to be installed and also Windos .NET Framework for the Snapshot Utility.

SNOMED CT® (Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine — Clinical Terms), is a systematically organized computer processable collection of medical terminology covering most areas of clinical information such as diseases, findings, procedures, microorganisms, pharmaceuticals etc. It allows a consistent way to index, store, retrieve, and aggregate clinical data across specialties and sites of care. It also helps organizing the content of medical records, reducing the variability in the way data is captured, encoded and used for clinical care of patients and research.

Clinicians and organizations use different clinical terms that mean the same thing. For example, the terms heart attack, myocardial infarction, and MI may mean the same thing to a cardiologist, but, to a computer, they are all different. There is a need to exchange clinical information consistently between different health care providers, care settings, researchers and others (semantic interoperability),and because medical information is recorded differently from place to place (on paper or electronically), a comprehensive, unified medical terminology system is needed as part of the information infrastructure. SNOMED CT also allows multilingual support and automatic translation of medical terms. That’s why the MDPIXX content is based and structured with SNOMED CT.

Images, videos and clinical cases organized under a SNOMED CT terminology are a really powerful tool for clinical collaboration. This will allow users to search Cases quickly by typing a term that relates to the Case.

MeSH was also considered as a good terminology since physicians are used to PubMed. SNOMED was covering the similar terminology but also has multilingual support and ICD9 and ICD10 connections.

MDPIXX is a secure community for physicians. 100% Privacy is ensured since no patient data are required and 100% HIPAA complaint because no patient information is needed to create a Case.  You may read Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy for more detailed information.

We are just reviewing MDPIXX with some known physicians and first impressions and inputs are really possitive which give us energy for the firsts stepts.

Here there is the first comment: “MDPIXX site is a great idea to rapidly share case reports and videos from e.g. surgery between doctors and other groups within health care. The publication delay is avoided which may be up to 1 year for some medical journals. Also, some studies are rejected by the strict rules of journals and may never be published and lost for others to read. All new findings may thus be accessible to other doctors immediately. Another advantage is the video application. To my knowledge, this is a new thing and would be of great educational value. The site is perfect to quickly enter and obtain information about a given condition just encountered in the clinic. The main concern of doctors will probably be that the reporting on MDPIXX is not filtered through the reviewing process of other objective doctors and the reliability may be questioned. This is however also the main advantage of the site, and this site is needed when doing a comprehensive search of the literature. The name is easy to remember and the site is easy to navigate on. It would be good if everything, if possible, could be in English. Since doctors, at least in Denmark, tend to be quite conservative a lot of advertising will be needed. Everyone uses the Pubmed.com regularly. New sites may have a hard time. “
